hTest/hFormat (ver 2.0) Abandonware The Paul Mace Software hTest/hFormat utility suite is used for Low-Level (physical level) hard drive formatting and testing. Although the software runs under DOS, the utilities can prepare drives for use by other operating systems. Be aware that these fantastic utilities were written for drives that came before IDE drives were available (i.e. RLL, MFM, etcetera drives), and therefore if used improperly on an IDE drive, have the potential to make the IDE drive unuseable! Included utilities = C33TRAP.COM - TSR buffers DOS simultainious track requests into sequential requests CRC.COM - Computes a CRC value for a file (checksum saved to "CRC.LST") GETSEC.COM - Saves sector data from a disk sector to a file HFORMAT.COM - Performs a physical-level disk format, and marks bad sectors [=caution=] HOPTIMUM.COM - Changes disks physical interleave [=caution=] HPERF.COM - Tests disks seek and transfer rate HTEST.COM - Tests disks ability to properly read and write data PUTSEC.COM - Returns saved sector data in a file to a disk sector RELOCATE.COM - Moves disk heads to a specified cylinder XFDISK.COM - Creates and changes disks partition table NOTE: Additonally you will need to use your operating systems disk format utility to format a drive partition in a file storage method useable by your operating system.
